hey cook.ie.

Trust me.
i WANT to blog.
but there is nothing in my life that is cool. new. or different.
i go to school. come home. work. homework. tear up the city with my bffs.
school is SO exciting to me-- i just don't want to bore people and have it be the only thing i talk about.
but i am going to do it anyway:)

This week was COOKIE WEEK. such a good week. i like making cookies A LOT more than i like making bread. So far we have made Chocolate Chip cookies, Oatmeal Raisin, Springerles, Orange Pecan Biscotti, Lemon Bars, Brownies, Sables a la pouche, Parisian Macarons, Tuiles, and icebox cookies. IT'S NUTS!! and all before noon on thursday. So far i have loved the biscotti and macarons the most.
top: parisan macarons, sables a la pouche.
bottom: bavarian with a cookie, chocolate stick, raspberries, blueberries and passion fruit caramel.. AND biscotti.

and the other glorious thing about school is that the other classes are making food to share WITH YOU. The Garde Manger class has brought us in the best stuffed mushrooms i have ever tasted, potstickers, won-tons, sandwiches, deli meats, salads. AND today i tried SASHIMI. yep. raww yellow tail fish. LOVED IT. (as long its cut thin.)

and while i enjoy going to school everyday, it is so so hard. Today proved to be my hardest day BY A LONG SHOT.  and not just a hard day for me... FOR EVERYONE. hard day is even an understatement. 15 overly moody souls.. cooking.together. is like living with satan.

and the rumors are true. CULINARY SCHOOL CAN MAKE YOU FAT.

challah.

this week at school we have made 5 different kinds of baguettes, Challah (pronounced HOLLA!) bread, Dinner Rolls, San Francisco Sourdough, and my favorite- focaccia. It's so busy, and sometimes quite stressful. But I am just loving it!

These are my main ladies/team mates. Darci and Allison.

weekin review.

good. good.good.good.good.week.
as i have mentioned before.. i started Culinary School this week.
such an adventure! it's pretty intense right now. Baking is really quite difficult and there is so much i need to learn.
But already i have made Bagettes, using 3 different mixing methods (that completely change the taste of the bread.), corn tortillas, pita bread, and lavash. I also had some of the best hummus ever.
Between the food our class makes, and the food the other classes make, i am fulll by the time 11:30 rolls around.

I also played with Gary and Jennica a lot this week. Lots of Street Fighter, truth or dare jenga, skip-bo, jamba juice, psych and bowling. it's just been too much fun! and gary moves today to P-rovo. :(

gary sliding on the ground while bowling.

the scores.

oh and gary made this drink. Kava is it's name. It's not good. It tastes like dirt/dust and water.

best of first day.

first day of Culinary School.
i felt like i was living in a dream.come.true.
Even though my Baking and Pastry class is at 6am. it's just going to be the best ever.
and even though we sat in chairs for literally 4 hours. i was so happy. i'm so excited for this adventure!
Also, Chef Diaz made us sourdough bread and it was too good!
and the Bakeshop is beautiful.
i don't like the baking part of cooking as much.. but this class seems like it is going to be so fun. and hard.

break-up.

my 3 week Christmas break is done. OVER. GONE.
and it was by far the best break i have ever had!
along to the stuff i have already posted, some other things i did were..
sledding. and new years day-10pm-cemetery visits!

lots of ping pong.

watching old movies (cat on a hot tin roof) till 2am. with aub, jenn & gary.
going to Del Taco with Jennica, Aubrey, Gary, & Danielle. (JAGLD.) + shelle and rico.
Playing sKipBo. new favorite game!

and of course. the Tea Party.
Monday was kind of the last hurrah before Aubrey left. SO WE HAD TO.

this is the most memorable break i have ever had. thanks to everyone!

my year 2010.

as i was just writing in my journal i made a list of all the amazing and fun things that happened to me in 2010.
2010 was the year that i grew up the most. by far.
i was so blessed, and can't wait for 2011!
i feel like this new year is a fresh start on some things in my life.
happy new year my blogging friends!

ringing in the new year was AMAZING! i seriously have never had a funner new years eve/new year!
we started by playing just dance, ping pong, apples to apples and hotubbing at Danielles.
then Brand, Jenn, Aubrey, and i spent part of our evening at Gary's house.
Gary's family is from Peru. and they have a bunch of crazy fun traditions for when the clock strikes 12 for the new year. some of my favorite events of the evening were...
-eating grapes=making wishes
-throwing pennies into the house from outside
(even though they were thrown up to the ceiling falling down on the dog, too too funny)
-running up and down the stairs symbolizing going up in the new year
-hugging every single one of his family members
-eating dinner at MIDNIGHT. best idea ever? yes. and it was SO SO GOOD!
-dance party. Gary's aunt is CRAZY! i avoided dancing the whole time, until i literally had my shoes on and was about to leave. She grabs my arm and pulls me to the living room to dance. FUNNIEST THING OF MY LIFE.

there were several moments this night were i thought i was going to start crying because i was laughing so hard and having so much fun! it was awesome to see the culture. Gary's family were so kind and welcoming to have us there. there is nothing i would have rather been doing and will never forget this night!

the only thing i regret is not learning more from spanish in jr. high and taking pictures! so i leave you with this.. me holding Gary's albino snake. who was pms-ing apparently. Her name is Sinisis (i think)
